The Importance of Forgiveness
We are often confronted by anger, sadness and frustration in our daily life. If you’ve ever experienced bitterness and resentment, then you know that it is not something worth carrying around all the time. It becomes a heavy burden that weighs us down and isolates us. Forgiveness takes this away. Forgiveness kills bitterness and resentment.
We talk about forgiveness, without really going deep into the core meaning of it. It's easy to say "I forgive you, or I forgive someone" in a shallow, nonchalant way, but the truth is we often don't recognize the pains that we still hold in our heart. Forgiving is much more than forgetting, while the latter simply means letting the pain rest somewhere in your heart until something brings it back up, the former is letting go the bitterness of the pain causes. In the act of forgiving, it’s important to put aside the pride that becomes a barrier and stops us from being a truly forgiving person.
Although forgiveness in itself is a virtue, it also shows that you have other virtues as well, such as patience, tolerance and self-control. It further shows that you have concern for other people and their views, you have compassion towards others and you have an open mind.
Truthfully, if you cannot get over your own pride, you will never be able to fully forgive anyone for anything.
Here are some tips on how you can learn to forgive :
1. First Acknowledge the pain you feel and recognize who is responsible for causing that pain, it may be well you, if that is the case, learn to forgive yourself.
2. Release any expectations you have of restoring the wrong that was done to you.
3. Be aware of your boundaries so that hurtful feeling doesn’t happen again.
4. Remember that people cannot give you what they don’t have.
5. Learning to forgive requires acceptance, and acknowledging that what happened really happened, instead of wishing it were different.
6. Release the unhealthy attachment you maintained concerning how the other person behaves.
Forgiveness in trading :
What does forgiveness has to do with trading you may wonder...in trading as in any other part of life, we need to forgive ourselves from making mistakes and errors, we have to accept that we are imperfect in many ways. We need to learn to reach for help.
Forgiveness takes a great part in becoming a professional trader. Those who fail do not have the will, desire, or ability to truly be honest with themselves. They cannot forgive themselves and eventually take massive losses. You need to have the courage to ask for help. In the same way, if you cannot stay humble you will eventually fail.
When I started this journey, I thought that trading was purely buying low and selling high, make millions and travel to exotic islands on my yacht. I eventually learn much more about myself, about what truly motivate me...and quite amazingly, its not the power nor the fame....its to accept who I am as a person.
BE FORGIVING!
