Why LESS is MORE?
I travel the World for months with my small carry on and a backpack, bringing with me only what I need, and stripping out of all the superfluous, it's a very liberating feeling.
To many, being a minimalist means a life full of sacrifices, to get rid of every belongings we have and keep only the bare essentials. It also means not taking advantage of all that is available in our modern world.
But to me, being a minimalist means I value myself more than the material things I have. It means making decisions based on what I really need instead of getting everything I want.
My journey with minimalism began recently, when I realized how unhappy I was, surrounded with all the material possessions I have, my luxury watches collection, the branded clothes and fashion sneakers, my 20+ pairs of trendy glasses, my vintage wine collection...etc
As a guy, growing up in a capitalist country, I was often brainwashed by the idea that having more equals being more successful, that happiness is getting the latest high tech gadget, that having a fancy car is the key to get girls knocking on my door, that staying in a resort and bragging on social medias to make people jealous is a cool way to flatter my ego... but I realized this is a never ending route, that I lied to myself the whole time. I wasn't happier with all the things I have, worst I feel even more trapped by the idea of always needing more and never having enough. How many watches do I need before my eyes bleeds from hours of watch hunting on Ebay? Silly isn't it? I was like a junkie on cocaine.
Lately I avoid buying things I don't need, giving away things I don't use, following the path of many who have chosen to live a life more meaningful and having the liberty to chose what I really want rather than being dictated by marketing gurus.
How do I feel today? LIGHTER!
