Simple Joys in Life
Last November, when I was still in Asia....prior to this whole pandemic madness. I recall how life was so simple in its most complex form. I was sitting on a terrace at a coffee shop on Dong Khoi ( formerly Catinat ) street in Saigon (Vietnam). I remember feeling grateful. Its nice to take pleasure in simple things. Feeling the hot breeze on my skin, listening to the rain on a hot summer night, making a innocent wish by blowing on a dandelion flower or having a nice talk with a friend....
We always over complicate things in our lives, and frankly we are often to blame for many of the problems we encounter. Most of life’s biggest joys come from simple things. They say the best things in life are free.
I think if we can really appreciate the simple things in life, we can probably live very differently. Be alive in every moment and enjoy....here and now.
Here are some of the simple joys in my life:
The joy of meaningful conversation with someone.
In today's hectic world, we don't take much time to get into deep and meaningful conversation with other anymore. If we want to say something, we send a text message, if we like someone we hit the "blue thumb" on a Facebook post, if we hate person we unfriend them on social medias. But for me, there is no greater joy than being in contact with other people. I often get into deep conversation with my mom, we spend hours sharing our thoughts. I also like to spend time talking to traders friends from MeetUps and with people I encountered when traveling. All those conversations are rich in contents and deep in meaning.
The joy of creating things.
I feel the greatest joy when I am doing something creative, when I am actively creating and making things. Going out with my camera and snapping random images is pure joy. Writing an article for this blog is fun and liberating. Editing a short clip and finding music to match with the whole mood is an awesome feeling.
The joy of taking a walk in the city.
I love letting my mind wander, letting my eyes hunting for some small details in a scenery, or letting my legs leads me to unknown places. Some of my best ideas come to me when I am walking. When I walk, I don’t worry or stress about useless things.
The joy of drinking coffee.
Maybe because I was born in Paris, where people love to chit chat in coffee shops, sipping on dark and bitter espresso. I take great joy sitting with my coffee mug and reading the newspaper, writing an article or simply looking at people. I spend a lot of my time working from coffee shops when I travel. Its a fun and a relaxing activity.
I would advice you to find the simple joys in your life and make the most out of them, you will see how sweet that can be.
